UNDER THE SURFACE
If I could turn back the hands of time
I'd take my love back from you.
Seems no matter how I try
There's something else I can't get through;
Can you show me how to hate?
You do it so well...
I tried to walk your path
You laughed as I fell.
If I brought it to the surface
I'm sure I'd be consumed;
I drink of my fermented madness,
We'll all be wasted soon.
If I could go back in time
I'd leave you behind;
Seems no matter where I look
There's something I can't find.
Can you teach me not to care
When my heart fails?
I tried to wear your cross but
Couldn't stand the nails.
If I brought it to the surface
I'm sure I would die;
I'll always need to need you,
I'll always long to cry.
If I brought it to the surface
You'd have to run away;
Worth its weight in feelings,
Too high for you to pay.
