I definately like quite a bit of Sabbath and Ozzy. It's just that I consider it rock and not metal. Sabbath was unique atleast for their time and I believe they called it doom rock at that time and not metal. Ozzy always sings about rock n roll because that's where he is coming from. But there's no denying their influence on what has come to be considered metal and modern metal.
But that doesn't make metal great. Most metal is balls. It's overhyped. Rock was almost 100% more cinsistently good music where metal almost always misses.Atleast in my book because I have standards. With rock it was always a matter of if it was good we listened to it and if it wasn't then fuck it,because there's always something better that we could be listening to.
But with metal metalheads it's like "it's metal therefore it's good and anything that isn't metal sucks because the only alternatives are rap or emo or britney spears or boy bands or whatever", and so just because there's no good alternatives to the rap and pop and emo crap that justifies all metal for them,even if it sucks balls. It's sad really.
