Hi there! For many years I looked down my nose at Westerns. I had a
wonderful Uncle who traveled around America for decades and was deeply
intelligent, who was always telling me to read Zane Grey. I never did.
Sadly, he passed away a few years ago, and my Aunt passed his Zane
Grey collection to me. Last summer I finally read a few - and LOVED them!

Hungry for more, I stumbled onto L'amour. I first read How The West
Was Won, which was nice. But I then happened on The Lonesome Gods,
which is one of the best novels I have ever read (for perspective - at
the same time I was reading James Joyce & DH Lawrence). What a
phenomenal novel! It just blew me away. I had no idea a Western novel
could be so literate and epic.

I'm going to read The Walking Drum next 'cause I love Medieval Europe
as a story setting. Then I'm embarking on the Sackett saga.
