The Western Writer's of American named LL as one of the best western writers of the 20th century in their most recent list. They also included HONDO as one of the top 21 westerns written in the 20th century...leaving off FLINT, which had in 1977 placed in the top 20 western novels of all time. I'm not sure how a novel can place in the top 20 of all time and not make the top 21 of the 20th century, but there ya go. In addition THE SACKETTS was included as one of the best western Mini-series of the 20th century.
There were over 50 contributors to the lists. Contributers included Kirby Jonas (a western writer and sometime contributor to this site), Elmer Kelton (a western writer who was also named as one of the top western writers), Connie Hubbard (an award-winning writer, specializes in articles and cartoons relating to the western lifestyle) and Matt Braun (western writer).
It's sorta funny that the list was wisely not numbered, but because Kelton was the first writer listed his website includes the information that he was voted the best western writer of the 20th century by the Western Writer's of America. Kirby Jonas is better than Kelton IMO and he didn't even make the list...so there ya go.
