With regard to Tatton Chantry being the stowaway in TO THE FAR BLUE
MOUNTAINS, it must also be noted that in another instance in the same
book the legend of Tatton Chantry as returning back to Ireland from the
New World with wealth and wife, is also explicitly mentioned!!!

And in "Fair blows the Wind", Fergus McAskill tells Tatton that he knows
who Tatton really is and that there is some kind of a connection
between his family and Tatton's mother. But he doesn't elaborate any
further. A lot of ambiguity which doesn't amount to much since Fergus
disappears at sea and is never seen again.

L'amour adopts the same ambiguous line with the original "Tatton
Chantry" who washes ashore in Ireland and is discovered by our hero
and his father. In the book a couple of people recognize the name but
nothing further comes of it.

Wonder if L'amour had an original subplot which he forgot as he went
along!

Anyway, did they shoot a movie on this book?
