It would seem to be, but there are a few points to ponder. The stowaway in TO THE FAR BLUE... identifies himself as "Tatton", but doesn't give his name and indicates his family has been killed in the hills above the town. The town they are leaving is ablaze. There is no mention of the exchange between Chantry and Sackett in FAIR BLOWS THE WIND and yet the tale is familiar...perhaps, too familiar. So then, who is the young lad whose life sounded so much like the Tatton in FAIR BLOWS THE WIND? Could this have been the original Tatton Chantry from whom our young hero borrowed a name? Or did LL miss or forget some details in the retelling? Or are the facts alined perfectly to support the contention that the stoway in TO THE FAR BLUE was our Tatton Chantry of FAIR BLOWS THE WIND? |
