Its amazing how we all tend to try and fill in the blanks. With Tom, for example, we don't know what kind of family life he had or what happened to his family. Was his family large and full of strapping brothers that were taken from him during the war? Was his family lost to natural disaster, or perhaps in an Indian attack as the family moved west? We all paint a picture, filling in the past as we imagine it, but Tom doesn't seem to have a past.

We can fill in some of the blanks in Sunday's life. His education seemed formal...perhaps he had even taught for a time. Tyrell and Orrin seemed to have caught on quickly, so he obviously was a good teacher, but was it a natural gift or was it learned? He seemed also to have breeding and impeccible manners...this then would indicate he came from what might be called "lace curtain" society, or perhaps he was a Virginian, to whom manners would have been a part of everyday life.

We'll never know, but its fun to speculate.
