I also found it interesting that while
the friendship/love/marriage between Orrin and Laura Pritts came between Orrin and Tye, it did not affect them in the same way that the money/whatever issue came between Orrin and Tom. Perhaps it was the family bond, or maybe it was something smouldering in Tom all along. We can see how alcoholism affected Tom, so perhaps he had an addictive personality trait that was also attracted to violence in the same way? Who knows.
