Thanks, Ron. I was ready to start reading it from the beginning again. I knew it was near the beginning, but couldn't find the reference anywhere.
I hadn't realize how much time had elapsed in the story until this last read. Louis had written that the story was in the 1870-72 range. That means about 5 years had elapsed from shortly after he left the mountains, his walk to meet Reed Carney on the streets of Mora, he and Caps trip up north, and the final showdown.
