Perhaps we could expand the discussion concept to include a couple of
areas I've been working on over the years ...

1) Attempting to determine the year (or years) during which each of
the LL stories (short and novels) takes place. Sometimes not easy to
do. In example, in Kid Rodelo, the only "clues" that I found were his
references to General Custer's demise at LBH and, secondly, the value
of the gold being carried (and it's weight) as they travelled across the
desert.

2) Providing a vehicle for those readers who would like to know the
meaning of an LL terminology or phrase. There are many words in his
books for which a definition is elusive. "Light a shuck", brindle, "hog-
backed ridges" and "hammer-headed roan", are a few from the first few
pages of "The Daybreakers". I might know what they mean, but perhaps
some of our European (and more local) contributors do not. I'm
reasonably sure that we could get some lively discussion regards our
interpretations of LL's use of a word or phrase. Basically, if you don't
know what it means ... ask! The stories will have more meaning and we
will be educating.

3) The cataloging of some of LL's obscure references to characters.
In example, in "The Daybreakers", Tye reminises, 'Back home we had
two younger brothers and one older, but it had been a long time since
we'd seen Tell, the oldest of our brothers who was still alive ...'. That
implies that there was/were another/other older brother(s). Who
was/were he/they ? Again, a challange ... find the reference and track
it down ... if we can.

Some food for thought and now is the time, as has been said in other
postings, "We're off and running".
