LL did not leave home at 15. This is a half-truth that he promoted because the actual truth was a bit more complicated. There was a series of bank failures in the upper mid west in the early 1920s. Many of LL's father's (LL senior) customers could not pay their bills. Hard times followed (LL sr. had always worked several jobs including vet.) and when an oppurtunity came to sell their property came they took it and loaded LL and this adopted brother into a car laden with their belongings and set out. In 1923 they all four left home, not LL on his own -- although he made it sound that way.
A year later he missed connections with them and they were seperated for many months. Throughout his 20s LL was as often with his parents as not, living with them even as late as 1946.
LL's relationship with many members of his family was rocky. LaMoore's seem by nature to hold grudges for extended periods and Dad's family (all smart, opinionated, hair-trigger types) had it's share of fights (LL and his sister didn't speak for 20 years because he argued with her about his not continuing education).
Ultimately, I wouldn't call Louis' family a shining example of family values but that's probably why he dreamed of a family like the Sackett's.
