Yes, I recall the prize fight Louis was in and the other boys ran off when they saw the two boys(cousins/brothers?)and knew they could not fight them all. I like that comment about scaling the rock face, Mike. I have felt like that myself.
Remember Louis said he loved to read and was way ahead of the classes at school? Weren't he and his sister bored? The long winters of ND couldn't have helped. Wasn't his family in the veterinary business? It wasn't like it is now. Maybe he wanted "spending money."
The sheer mystery of why he left home so early has always been painful to me.
I have a theory, and I hope it is way wrong. Louis was a big and well-built fella real soon, able to take care of himself. Maybe he read, and wanted to see just over the next mountain....
