I think you are correct in saying that those who do not have something early in life work hard to get it later, be it money, family, love... Or they push it away to show disdain, but actually they are envious. Have you not met a relative who was generous with encouragement or money for a younger one who was earning a degree? Those that miss love early on are the ones who work the hardest: Have you not wondered why some of the nicest, bestest folks stay with the worst types, hoping things will change? Maybe they're used to a bad life, and normal feels abnormal.
LL's books give a cut and dried view, most of the folks are mentally healthy, and justice prevails. The values he expresses, the ones that win, are one strong reason I am drawn to his books so much. You work, build and fight right along with the characters, and then you win in the end, too.
