Now, that's just like a couple of GUYS! he he
My girlfriends and I used to "cruise 'E'" ("E" Street) in San Bernardino in the late '60's. Our area was strong with Mexican-Americans, and so there were lots of fantastic cars in the lineup. It was worth a trip just to look.
My dad bought a nice Oldsmobile (naturally), but it was a smaller model, and by happy circumstance contained a largish engine. (Don't know how that got past him.) Anyway, it was good like a Chevelle for the short track, and could blow the doors off all those Chargers and Mustangs.
Us girls had a great time. I had just got my license. I think I was the only student ever got a "C" in Drivers' Ed. from Colton High's good old Mr. Phelps, judging by the horrified look on his face during sessions with me.
Thing was, though, "E" was a known drag/cruising strip at nights, and there were few pedestrians. So it really wasn't very risky, the way I remember it. Plus, it was a fairly innocuous period in time. It was generally safe to be out driving, too.
Last year my mom mentioned to me about how diligent I was with my studies in high school, how she remembered me going to work on the school paper so often -- even at night!
Bad girl, bad girl.
