I will do that...hopefully I'll be lucky enough to find that 20 dollar copy. I've read snipits of Lear over the years, but have never attempted to read the whole thing...

The obvious drama of Tell and Ange's escape into the gunsights of the Kid and their flight down the mountain would have been wonderful...and can you imagine the majesty and intensity of the mountain scenes? It reminds me a little of the very first Star Trek movie...they approached Harlen Ellison about a script, and he gave "them" a story of people and their trials and tribulations and how they effect today and tomorrow, but "they" wanted things to go bang and boom and fill up the screen with special effects and monsters or better still a big unknown monster that was bigger and better than they could do on TV. The movie makers seemed to have missed the really gripping things in SACKETT and THE DAYBREAKERS, and the resulting story was somewhat watered down as a result. Ostersage did a nice job, but he failed to put across the danger that was within Tye...the closest he got was the disarming scene, and so it all falls back on "them" and their vision of what sells. The best thing about THE DAYBREAKERS was Tom Sunday, and somehow, someone was smart enough to give the job to Glen Ford, who was absolutely brilliant.
