There seems to be less chance taking in this one than when Tell left Cap behind. The town had made thru the rough winter and with spring coming on the town would need more than the sparce resources to survive. It was tough on two fronts for the town, and the greater risk was actually with Bendigo. The town continued to grow, as Ruth and the others expected it to, and the cattle were needed to aid in the growth. In those days and at that time the journey west and back again was frought with peril, natural and otherwise and all of it on Ben's shoulders along with the hopes of the town and its people. The situations were similiar, but I believe the risks were greater to the leaver in this instance than those left behind.
