My husband is from Green Bay. Those people are darned crazy up there. They work in that kind of weather. When he was in college, my husband had a job working for Avis at the airport, where he had to pick up and clean out rental cars and drive them around when it was minus 20 with that minus 50 wind chill.

They sit outside at Packers' games in Lambeau Field when it's below freezing. When I first went up there, it was 20 above for one game, and his mom said what a nice day it was. (I stayed in the house and watched on TV.) These winter books, like Bendigo S., give me the SHIVERS.

But at least with some winter experience now, I can figure what it was like for them, hunting and trying to keep their town together in that climate. I can't deny, though, that I'm right there when Louis talks about being the armchair traveler on those occasions. I remember reading somewhere he said he moved to California to get out of the snow.
