Well, I finally finished To Tame A Land. The book seemed to be written
in a hurry but was still interesting anyway. We have a family starting
out west in a wagon train and then Rye and his Father are stranded in
Indian Country. Their wagon breaks down and they are left behind by
the rest of the team. Rye is about 12 years old and traveling alone with
his widowed Father.

When you think about what they were about to face all alone it sends
chills up your back. You know the Indians are not very far away.
Needless to say they arrive and very quickly kill Rye's Father. Due to
Rye's Father love for his son he sends his son away so he'll survive the
Indian attack.

The son not only survive but goes after his Father's Killers. When he
finally catches up with the team he reveals that one man said they
would wait for him and his Father at the springs. Since they didn't this
caused the death of his Father.

Here is where Rye's education begins to really take shape. In steps
Logan Pollard he starts teaching Rye the ways of the west and how to
survive in this harsh land. But not only does he teach him how to read
trail and hunt for food, he teaches him how to shot a gun.

Logan is an educated man and he gives Rye a book to read Plutarch. He
tells him to read it at least 5 times. And then the adventure begins.
