According to the National Geographic Society map, "Ghost Fleet of the Outer Banks" (09/69), "The first English settlement in the New World was on Roanoke Island in 1585-86. Other settlers came in 1587. Three years later they had disappeared, leaving only the word "Croatoan" carved on a stocade post." More history and another mystery, from another "nut".
