The English were the first to settle on the Outer Banks of NC In 1587 (about) 150 English Men, Women and Children settled on Roanoke Island. The Governor (White) went back to England then brought back more supplies and colonists three years later but not a trace was left of the original colonists including White's daughter and grand daughter (first English child born in America). They had all disappeared and what happens remains a secret to today. I wonder if the ruins are of which LL hinted in the writings Mike wrote of? I too have an interest in Williamsburg, went there last summer for a week and saw some of the archaeological diggings. I just stood there looking into the diggins and my wife had to pull me away. They had found that the streets ran differently than first thought at an earlier time. The English came up to Jamestown 20 years after the failure of Roanoke. I think we have more that one "history nut" on this board. :)
