The Eno joined forces with the Catawba, so I think that puts Barnabus
where present day North and South Carolina come together. The
Catawba were of Siouan ancestry and at the time that Barnabus
stepped ashore they built their villages and tended to their fields along
the forests of the Piedmont. The tribe that Potaka was chasing when
Barnabus encountered him may have been one of the Algonkian tribes
that occupied the eastcoast or even the Yamasee to the south. Its not
clear if the Siouans came from the west and drove the Algonkians to the
coast or if the Algonkians came down from the north and drove the
Siouans west.

A solid block of Algonkian tribes appears to have split the Iroquois into
three distinct tribes with a common language, so apparently the
Algonkians had a few victories before Barnabus arrived on the scene.
The Cherokee and Tuscarora shared the same language as their
northern brethren, who archeologically at least predated the southern
tribes. Its thought that the Siouan tribes may have descended from the
mound building tribes of the Ohio-West Virginia-Tennessee areas. The
mound builders society seems to have disappeared shortly before
Europeans started to settle here. The northern and southern tribes of
the eastcoast were constantly at war...which consisted mainly of raids
and ambushes of about 12 warriors. Many of the tribes wore wicker
armor, which was kinda scarey looking, but befitted the rather dull
tomahawks and knives that were in use at the time.

I haven't read far enough along, but I'm trying to pick up the water
route to determine which route Barnabus took inland. Ideas anyone?
