Actually, unless as in Crossfire Trail or Fair Blows the Wind, a shanghai takes place or the ship is attacked by pirates or a hurricane blows in, a ship journey is notoriously tedious and boring (from a narrative point of view). Sure it's romantic, if someone else is doing the work and you are a passanger on a cruise line, but otherwise it's lots of hard work, lots of down time, days tend to pass in the same way and not much happens. LL probably just skipped it because most readers wanted to get to the action instead. Happy Sailing - er - trails. Jim E. |
