I agree that things should be left alone. I was simply making the point that one would not think of antique collecting in 1599. In some of LL's other stories he writes about drawings that the "old ones" left on caves and dwellings. Appreciate them, look at them, analyize them, BUT do not touch them. We live very close to the Oregon Trail. There are places where travelers left their mark by carving a name, date etc. I get so angry when I see graffiti covering some of those early insriptions. We need to make our own mark in history not cover up someone else's. This is what I have learned from Louis' books.
