Orestes is a greek name. In mythology, Orestes was the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. His mother had his father murdered by Aegisthus, who subsequently reigned for 8 yrs in his place. Orestes plotted for his day of vengeance. When he finally returned home to their kingdom, he killed not only Aegisthus, but Clytemnestra, too. Once the murder of his father was avenged, Orestes took his rightful place on the throne. Cindi.
