Wow, and since I have only heard the book, I thought the reader was saying "JIL-blain." Well, it's nice to know how to spell it. That ending on the name ("-ain") is a derivative or diminutive suffix, though. I don't know where or what the "Jubl-" portion refers to. But for example, "vill-ain" originally meant a farm person and "pag-an" also meant a country or farm person, too. And in German, the "-ein" ending means "little." Maybe "Jubl" was shortened from "Jubal" for pronunciation. I couldn't find Jubal in my name book, but I got the book for 10 cents at the thrift store, so what can I expect. I never thought about why he hooked up with Barnabas, though. I guess I just accepted that Jublain was a rootless mercenary and didn't much care where he went or with whom, but liked Barnabas's stripe somehow.
