Lottie didn't know what she had until she lost it. She did not know anything about the man she married until she had to look for him. She did not realize that she had had everything she had wanted without her fathers schemes. She could have been a part of his life and business but she could not see past her own nose. Same theme in Reilly's Luck where Myrna thinks only of herself and eventually is dissatisified with what she has attained. This is a tremendous lesson that many people need to learn. LL really makes quite a distinction here between the really caring and the self absorbed women and men. The lesson of looking past your own nose to others is a wonderful one. There are many lessons in LL's writing. |
