I just got started reading Flint tonight, but I was struck by the lack of life in Kettleman. Although he has been a "success" as the world defines it, he hasn't really lived. He has no friends, he knows no one well. He has come back West to die and he hasn't lived yet. This juxtaposes with Nancy Kerrigan, who is fully involved with life. Looking forward to seeing how this theme plays out in the book. Sandy
