I let you go.
Forgive me for my weakness.
I love you more
than I thought was possible,
however...
it hurts too much.

I escape you now,
and banish myself to -
a loveless world,
where lonliness will become
my twisted escape.
For there is no other.

I chose to go.
In staying we would go insane,
loving in vain,
trying so hard
to become what we are not.
Destroying ourselves.

Not to love again...
my punishment for leaving.
My punishment for failing.
My eternal anguish.
I free you now,
and enter my hell.

Confused, you cry,
but think sweet lady,
think of all we have had.
Think of all we've endured -
for a cruel love
that simply hurts too much.

I must free you
from this heavy chain of hope.
I must let you
create new dreams and goals.
I must love you enough now -
to let you go.

Tears, like acid
burn my breast.
There is no relief in release.
I surrender now 
to whatever gods have frowned on us.
I accept eternity alone.

Love was mine.
This is my comfort.
I have know it, lived it,
breathed it's joy and freedom.
Yes, I have known love,
and now I must let it go.
