dont forget asksha was turned because the sprit amel went inside of her, she was the first vampire, in the book the vampires fear that when she died they will die. mekare the twin with no tounge destroyed askasha, troughout the book certain vampires have dreams about the twins and did not know what they meant but it was all discovered in the end, after akasha died/was unable to fight, the twins marharet and mekare ate her brain and heart, therefore they did not destroy the spirit itself, early on in the book remember they described how they beleived that a spirit would not die if they ate the vital organs after death, they were going to it it for there mother but were stopped by askasha and enkil. it wasnt akasha that keeps the vampires alive they will stay alive as long as the spirit amel remains as long as the spirit lives they will live, you see? so throughout the book i think it was mekare that was trying to send all the vampires a message or a sign by showing them that scene of their mothers own feast so that they would know what was to be done.
