Queen of the Damned dead?

Throughout The Queen of the Damned it was said that when the Queen died all other Vampires would also die. Well she died and no other Vampires died when she did. I am wondering what it is I missed that explained what exactly happened to make the death of the Vampires not happen when she died?

Let me just say that this is an issue I find happends in Anne Rice books alot. All through a book we get the idea that when something happens a result will follow. Then when that "something" happens nothing results. Is this aritistic license or just forgetfulness?
